POSTIVE ACTION - IN THE NORTH WALES POLICE

NORTH WALES PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME FOR OFFICERS AND STAFF

This positive action programme for women in North Wales Police Service was commissioned by the officer and staff network group.

The programme was designed to help both support the development of individuals and to help break down cultural barriers between officers and staff. The initiative came out of the recently formed womens’ association for women police officers and staff. They were provided with a budget for development by the Chief Constable.

By module 2 of the programme 6 of the 10 women had achieved a significant difference in their working lives – either through promotion, getting a new project or by managing their work and themselves so that they were able to demonstrate what they were achieving and were no longer seen as a ‘problem’
