POSTIVE ACTION - LEADERSHIP
DEVELOPMENT FOR WOMEN
In the past five years,
Sarah Ackroyd has provided acclaimed training through the national leadership
development programme for senior women officers and local force initiatives
for positive action programmes. It is interesting to note that 5 of the
current 21 ACPO women (i.e 24%) in post have been through this programme.
Women continue
to be seriously under-represented at senior ranks in the police service,
and few women apply or get through to the chief officer ranks. We needed
a programme that would give women a supportive learning environment where
they could really reassess their future career options. Sarah provides
a challenging but fun programme; the feedback continues to be overwhelmingly
positive, and the outcomes are visible in the increased confidence of
the women and the success stories of promotions and new job satisfaction

The leadership
development programme for senior women officers provided me with an opportunity
to review my role as a senior woman and consider my next career steps;
the support and networking it gave were invaluable. Sarah was open, flexible
and challenging which ensured I faced up to some difficult issues and
her support during our mentoring gave me the confidence to successfully
reach the rank of Assistant Chief Constable.
